If you want to import a Microsoft Word 2010 document in OneNote you will have several options.
Insert a print out of the document
Just drag and drop your Microsoft Word 2010 document on your OneNote 2010 page and choose [Insert the file as printout so I can add notes to it]
In most cases I choose this option, because you can immediately the content of the document in the correct format and still be able to edit the document in it’s original format:
Insert a copy of the document
Just drag and drop your Microsoft Word 2010 document on your OneNote 2010 page and choose [Insert a copy of the file onto the page]
Insert a link to the document
Just drag and drop your Microsoft Word 2010 document on your OneNote 2010 page and choose [Insert a link to the original file]
Copy and Paste
Just press CTRL + A in your Microsoft Word 2010 document en press CTRL + C then in your OneNote 2010 page, press CTRL + V.
Consequences
– It will change the chapter and paragraph numbering
– It will change the layout of your document
The option for “insert a link to the original file” is not appearing on my Surface Pro 2 running onenote 2010. It does show on my laptop running Windows 7, onenote 2010. Any advice?
I have hundreds of WORD 2010 files. I can search them quickly for key words. They are organized in folders. If I used Option 1 above (insert a file as a printout) would I still be able to search for keywords. Is the editing of a printout as easy as using WORD 2010. I can see advantages of OneNote, but I like my search index on WIN7. I have SSD drives for WIN7 and SATA2 drive for data.
Yes you will be able to search the print outs even if you paste images into OneNote it will scan those images with a OCR technique and you will be able to search text in images.
Is there a way to do this programmatically? I’d like to do a 1 doc, 1 page type of deal for 40+ documents.
