When I used a VPN connection I did not have internet connection, when I disconnected the VPN connection I had internet access again. I used the Microsoft Windows 7 Network Diagnostics tool to see what the problem could be.
It responded with the error message: “The configured proxy server is not responding”. Well normally you would go to:
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Uncheck the “Use a proxy server for you LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections).”
But that this not fix my problem, then I red the checkbox text again:
Use a proxy server for you LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections).”
I was using a VPN connection, so there had to be another way to set the proxy settings for a VPN connection and there is, go to:
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > Select you’re VPN connection and click on [Settings]
Uncheck the “Use a proxy server for this connection (These settings will not apply to other connections)”
After unchecking this box I was able to get internet access, when using the VPN connection

A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary between your computer and other servers. Right now, your system is configured to use a proxy, but Google Chrome can’t connect to it.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or check with your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working.
If you don’t believe you should be using a proxy server, try the following steps:
Go to the Wrench menu > Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings > LAN Settings and uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN.

Hi Folks,
This error can also happen, if you have installed any Fiddler like network monitoring tool, which could act as proxy.
Please uncheck the options of this tool being acting as a proxy, that would solve the error!!

I am not able to connect to the internet. ” the proxy server isn’t responding” comes up. I’ve tried everything I’ve seen online, unless I’m missing something. If I try and go to tools, internet options, connections, I cannot choose settings at all. Please help….
During updates on my Venue 8, I had “proxy server not working”. I disabled the proxy sever suing this method. It work Thanks a lot.
