After some automatic Windows updates, I was unable to open my SSIS projects in Microsoft Visual Studio 2012.

The following error was shown: The type initializer for ‘Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Project.SharedIcons’ threw an exception.

After a google search, I found the following solution at:

Solution

Download and install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2861107

(The hotfix is 780MB, say what?!)

  1. I had updated SQL Server to CU9 and I still have the same problem.

My SQL Server version is 11.03412 and Visual Studio 2012 Update 4

    Please, help me.

    Regards.

  2. I have the same issue as Edel. Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 which can’t create a project. I’ve uninstalled / re-installed the application and it’s still bricked.

  3. Thought I’d share for anyone else who had this problem. One of my co-workers was having this issue in VS 2012 SP5. A lot of the SQL 2012 hot fixes were for much older versions so we installed SP3 for SQL 2012. Everything started working just fine after that.
